Volunteer Requirements for the State of Pennsylvania
Thank you for your desire to serve our congregation as a volunteer. In order to comply with PA State law, volunteers who will have direct contact with children are required to provide three separate background clearances:
1. PA State Police
2. PA Child Abuse
3. FBI Fingerprinting or waiver*
You may click the links above to apply online, but if you prefer, paper copies that can be mailed to the correct agencies are available in the church library for your convenience. Once you have obtained your clearances, please email or bring them to the church office for our records.
*Only volunteers who have not been residents of Pennsylvania for the last 10 consecutive years need to get FBI fingerprinting. If this does not apply to you, see the church office or the head of the department with which you are volunteering to obtain a waiver.
If applying for clearances online, be careful to read all the directions, keep your Keystone ID information in a safe place for future use, and print or download the proper certificates (not just the application) for the PSP background clearance.
All volunteers are able to obtain a free clearance every 57 months. Clearances expire every 5 years.
