Please join on Friday Evening for a night of family and community fun. Invite your friends. Please NO SCARY COSTUMES!
I hope this message is finding you well!
The purpose of this is to inform you of a very special project that I currently have opportunity to be working on. I, along with two other girls, are currently writing a Grant for Foundation for Dreams. We are passionate about this project and we want everyone to know about it!
Just to give you all a little more background, I was privileged to work for Foundation for Dreams in the last two summers. This foundation is a non-profit company that serves children with special needs. They provide overnight care and fun activities for ALL children with various chronic, developmental, mental and physical disabilities. The programs for these children are not only provided throughout the summer months through camps, but also on the weekends throughout the year. The foundation longs to foster independence and social skills among each child, while also providing their parents with much needed respite.
Foundation for Dreams is extremely unique. It is the only place in the Tampa Bay area that provides respite care throughout the entire year. Statistics shown in 2012 tell us that there are 6.4 million children in the US that receive special education services in the age group from 3-21 years. There is a great need for programs like Foundation for Dreams to continue to thrive and grow.
Foundation for Dreams has personally touched my life in an exceptionally strong way. Through working here, I learned more from every single child then I ever thought possible. Every single child that is served here is more special than I could possibly describe in an email.
Furthermore, the Foundation makes sure that each child knows how significant they are. Each week there are award shows that display something exceptional that each child does. Following this is a talent show. Their strengths and great qualities are always highlighted here. They get to be a star and get to feel extraordinary. Unfortunately for many of these kids, they never get to be on center-stage. They are misunderstood and often treated unfairly. Foundation for Dreams completely erases this stigma.
Why am I telling you this? Well, what started off as a school project for me this year, turned into a huge initiative and I am trying to share it with as many people as possible. I am writing a grant for Foundation for Dreams, so that they will be able to gain materials to not only construct a small building for a multisensory room, but also fill the sensory room with vital equipment. We are aiming to achieve this goal and have a multisensory room built in order to better serve the needs of each child that attends the programs. The foundation is never lacking in quality staff or activities, but it currently does not have sensory equipment that is sufficient. Sensory stimulation and exploration is so important for children with special needs. If this Grant comes through, each child will be much better served.
Right now, I am fundraising to make this dream a reality. I am using a website to gain extra funds to travel to Florida from Pennsylvania with the two other girls who are working on this project. We are trying to get down there to raise support, spread awareness of our project, and meet with companies in order to propose our ideas. Our goal is to travel to Florida by late November. In addition, we are using money fundraised on this site to buy items that will fill the sensory room.
Our website is: http://www.gofundme.com/gfky2c
This site contains more details about the project. In addition it has a video explaining details and a viewable rewards system for donors. Please visit our site, and donate if you feel led to. More importantly, regardless of whether you decide to donate or not please forward this email to anyone you know who might support the cause. This is a lofty goal, but it is very important, and we need your help!
